Thrilling Tarpon Tussles: Witness Aerial Acrobatics in Puerto Rico's Lagoons
What a day on the water we had with Charles Barber on our Fishing Charters Puerto Rico | Private Morning 4 Hour Charter Trip! This was the perfect way to experience the premier Tarpon fishing that Puerto Rico has to offer. March is a prime time to chase these incredible gamefish, as the warming waters draw them into the Torrecilla and San Jose Lagoons. We met up at the Calle Cangrejos Yacht Club bright and early at 6:00 am, with partly cloudy skies overhead.
As we made our way out, the water was looking great—crystal clear and calm, just the way we like it for our light tackle and fly fishing techniques. We started the trip by mixing it up, working the lagoons with a variety of presentations, from deep sea trolling to jigging and drift fishing. It didn't take long before Charles had a blistering run on his line—he was hooked up with a beautiful Tarpon that gave him one heck of a fight! That fish had us chasing all around, stripping line and making some intense jumps, but Charles kept his cool and landed that trophy fish. After that, the action just kept coming, with more Tarpon hitting our baits and putting on an amazing aerial display.
In between catches, we had the chance to soak in the stunning natural beauty of the lagoons. The mangroves, winding waterways, and diverse wildlife made for an incredible backdrop to our fishing. And with just the right amount of cloud cover, the weather was comfortable and pleasant all day long. Even when a light rain moved in during the afternoon, it didn't slow us down a bit. We stayed on the fish and kept the hookups coming.
